Clarendale Clayton Partners with Bayless High School CBVI Program to Empower Students with Disabilities
Clarendale Clayton has a new partnership with Special School District of St. Louis County’s SSD Community-Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI) program at Bayless High School, providing students with disabilities with meaningful real-world work experience.
Through SSD’s CBVI program, which collaborates with more than 180 local businesses and organizations, high school students gain valuable skills, confidence, and exposure to potential career paths.
Growth in Action
Over the past few months, five students have been actively engaged at Clarendale Clayton, rotating through the culinary, life enrichment, environmental, and business office teams.
“I love helping the students learn in the restaurant each day,” said community resident Lena Rush. “They are helpful to the community and are ready to work, listen, and learn. They have fun energy that is contagious to the residents that they help.”
Under the guidance of Clarendale Clayton staff and their schoolteachers, the students not only earn high school credits but also develop practical workplace skills that prepare them for future opportunities. In turn, the community benefits from their fresh perspectives, dedication, and vibrant presence.
“Programs like CBVI create a meaningful connection between generations,” said Mark Golliday, Executive Director of Clarendale Clayton. “Residents enjoy the energy and curiosity of these young people, while the students gain confidence and hands-on experience that will serve them throughout their lives. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
Community Engagement Is Part of the Clayton State of Mind
Clarendale Clayton joins respected organizations such as Mercy Hospital, the Saint Louis Zoo, Schnucks, and local universities in supporting the growth and success of students through the CBVI program.
This partnership highlights the importance of intergenerational programs and reinforces Clarendale Clayton’s commitment to fostering strong community connections while providing residents with an engaging, purposeful lifestyle.
