Clarendale Clayton Partners with Oasis for Adventures in Lifelong Learning

Research suggests there are many benefits to stretching your mind at any age, but lifelong learning is especially beneficial for older adults. Advantages range from the obvious—increased brain and mental health, to the truly remarkable—a longer life span!

To maximize the benefits of lifelong learning opportunities for residents of Clarendale Clayton, we’ve partnered with the Oasis Institute.

“For more than 40 years, Oasis has been engaging older adults in continued learning and unique opportunities for connecting and volunteering,” says Paul Weiss, Oasis President. “Today, our network includes more than 700 partners in 33 states, and we’re delighted to count Clarendale Clayton among them.”

Oasis aligns nicely with our emphasis on the Eight Dimensions of Wellness at Clarendale Clayton. Since we know quality of life is multi-dimensional, we concentrate on multiple wellness factors to ensure overall physical, psychological and social well-being. The partnership with Oasis Institute sharpens that focus.

Physical and Health Wellness

Our team at Clarendale Clayton helps strengthen body, mind and spirit. Together we lay out a plan incorporating physical activity, nutrition, preventive health screenings, even sleep and stress management.

Likewise, Oasis places an emphasis on senior health, offering a curriculum of general health classes, as well as evidence-based programs focused on fall prevention, chronic disease self-management and peer-led discussion groups.

Vocational Wellness

Each resident’s talents, wisdom and experience are valuable, so we actively strive to provide opportunities to volunteer—at Clarendale and in the surrounding community.

Also, through our partnership, Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring connects trained Clarendale Clayton resident mentors with struggling student readers. Additional volunteer opportunities include slots for class instructors, peer leaders and help with Oasis center operations.

Intellectual Wellness

When we exercise our minds—just like our bodies—they stay in shape and get even sharper as we age. You’ll discover ample opportunities for continuous learning at Clarendale Clayton.

In fact, the Oasis alliance is bringing seven featured arts and entertainment classes to the Clarendale Clayton campus this spring and summer. All are complimentary for Clarendale Clayton residents.
